What is Speed of Writing in Graphology?
In Graphology, speed is the quickness with which strokes are performed. This expresses the way in which the individual gets around in life. If he does it with a certain quickness or if he needs to take long and frequent pauses.

When analyzing speed, it is essential to detect in which zone or zones the individual projects this dynamism (or slowness), if done from the intellectual sphere in the superior area, from the affective-emotional area in the middle area or from the instinctive sphere in the inferior area. The graphical speed acquires a perceptible value, since it is an indicator of compatible symptoms with disorders, physical and psychological pathologies.
What is Speed of Writing related to?
In order to complement the study of graphical speed, we refer to graphical tension and its cadences, continuity and cohesion of writing and to the linear displacement of lines and words (direction).
Speed is related to the mobility. Therefore, it reflects organic and physiological aspects of the individual, expressing his vital state and keeping relationship with the temper and character. It responds to all variations of rhythmic frequency of the body, picks up information of the nerve system of the individual that sits for the graphological test. The speed of the strokes is related to the speed of mental processes, comprehension, reflection level, intuition and logics of the individual.
The writing speed is related to the level and type of activity of the individual, his performance at work under pressure (effectiveness and efficiency) and resolution time, ability for action and reaction, speed in the tasks he is assigned, either manual or intellectual. Ability to find solutions depending on the given situation, resistance to change, stability for task continuity.
The degree of social adjustment is expressed in the sense of progression or regression of the strokes. The type of conduct is noticed: (Spontaneous and flexible or rigid and inflexible) in the speed together with cohesion and graphical tension.
The degree of intro-extroversion, the ability for relating with others, the existence of self-control, impulse self-control. The attitude of people towards interpersonal bonds may be of several types, from controlled attitudes to hyper-controlled, rigid and intransigent to impulsive, loaded of aggression and violence. This is analyzed in speed along with the dimension, length of strokes and orientation.
The ideal speed in writing: It must be fast or paused, and may be accelerated as long as it keeps the form.

Those who write slowly (and do not have a disease or cultural issue) are individuals who are calm and organized. They develop their activities with perfectionism and slowness, serenely and calmly. They have great self-control, reflection. They are guided by logics before intuition. Their decisions take time. The speed of mental processes is limited, which does not mean they do not have intellectual capacity. Slow reasoning is not lack of intelligence. Reserved personalities that are characterized for their patience and persistence. Great ability for observation, good memory and concentration. Special for routine work that are resolved with a practical sense and without complications, like classification and filing activities.
Tendency to introversion, stable state of mind, emotional stability, they present difficulties to relate with others due to their little verbosity. The bonds they establish are simple, plain and without complications.
On the negative side, slow writing means clumsiness, slowness in action and difficulty for assimilating new concepts. Inactivity, tiredness, sloth, apathy, laziness. Introverted and passive personality. It is the typical graphism of childhood and senescence.

Paused Speed
Traits are not executed with the slowness of slow writing but there is passivity. Speed of reasoning is faster, intuition on reflection is increased. The speed for work is slow. Prefers tasks that do not involve decision-making. Even though introversion prevails, adjustment to the environment is adequate. They are characterized by judgment and common sense.
Normal Speed
It is the one characterized by strokes of a middle speed. It is related to a balanced personality, where on occasion intuition prevails and on others, logics, integrating in a coherent way. The ability to relate to others is superior to slow writing but controlled. The working rhythm is middle. They can execute command positions, as well as subordination.
Fast Speed
Fast speed is characterized by curved movements, connected or combined letters, early periods and t- bars or connected to the next letter, incomplete letters, decreasing letters in the middle area, presence of simplifications. It is a vivid writing that keeps harmony within the graphical context. It is progressive, ascending and with a right slant.
What is the meaning of Fast Writing?
This type of writing is typical of individuals with mental agility, extroverted, with great intuition, decision, diligent, dynamic. They have ability to talk, they establish affective bonds easily, excellent for public relationships due to their ability for adjustment and spontaneity. They are proactive, independent, they have ability for command, although they can perform tasks of subordination without difficulty. On the negative side, they can be hasty, lacking concentration and attention. They can lose control, resulting daring and bold. The environment that surrounds them influences them considerably, contributing to incrementing anxiety levels.
Very Fast Speed
The speed of writing comes from the nerve system. That is why environmental pressure, stress symptoms, anxiety and irritability generate impatience that accelerate an increase the speed of motor responses and of the way of writing. The presence of filiform traits (similar to an unrolled thread without height nor M and N form), lack of shape in letters, they all indicate very fast writing. We only interpret this way if this is the usual graphism of the individual (not if he is in a hurry or nervous, taking notes, or prescribing medicine as doctors).
This reflects anguish, anxiety for finishing the work, for connecting with others necessarily, neurotic. There are difficulties in communication due to the fact that the mind and thinking are faster than the way of expressing them. There may be diminishing in the intellectual performance due to excess of emotivism, which takes them to precipitation.
